A Hanoi-born artist, a small room in the Old Quarter, and one belief: everyone deserves a tattoo that means something.
Hi, I'm Son
"I wanted to help people mark their memories and their dreams, one tattoo at a time."
My name is Nguyễn Đức Sơn, but you can call me Son. I was born and raised in Hanoi, and for as long as I can remember I have loved to draw. Pencils, paper and a head full of ideas were my first toys.
My love for tattoos began with a story. When I was a boy, I met an uncle who was a retired soldier. On his arm he wore one small tattoo. He told me what it meant to him, and I listened, completely hooked. That was the moment I understood that a tattoo is never just a picture. It is a memory, a promise, a piece of someone's life that they carry with them forever.
I went on to study at the Hanoi University of Industrial Fine Arts, where I sharpened my eye for line, composition and design. Little did I know that those years of drawing were quietly preparing me for the work I would devote my life to.

2008
My first master
Through a family connection, my uncle introduced me to a friend of his who tattooed. He became my first teacher. Tattooing in Vietnam was still very raw back then: equipment was basic, technique was limited, and there were few artists to learn from. It was hard, but I never stopped searching, practicing and pushing my skills forward.

Leveling up at Tats Studio
After about two years with my first master, I knew I needed to grow beyond what I could learn there. I said goodbye with gratitude and joined Tats Studio, at the time one of the best tattoo studios in Hanoi, led by a truly gifted artist. I learned a great deal from him. He has since retired, but I still respect him deeply and consider him my second master.

After two years at Tats Studio, I felt ready to walk my own road. I opened Mr Tattoo Hanoi Studio in the Old Quarter with a simple mission: to help people mark their memories and dreams through tattoos.

Growth
From one small room to a full team
Clients came from day one. I moved from a tiny rented space into a larger shop, and from working alone to building a team of tattoo artists. I also began teaching, and many of my students have gone on to open their own successful studios, which makes me proud every single day.

Honestly, I stopped counting a long time ago. Even at a conservative two tattoos a day (in reality, often more), fifteen years adds up to more than 10,800 pieces. Each one was a story somebody trusted me with.

My Philosophy
When I opened the studio, I looked around at Hanoi and thought about the people who live here. Incomes are modest and daily spending is careful. It never felt right to me that a tattoo should be a luxury. Plenty of artists in the city charge very high prices, and that is their choice. I chose a different path.
"Better to tattoo many than to tattoo few."
That is the rule I live by. I set my prices at a fair level so that as many people as possible, travelers and locals alike, can afford a tattoo they will be proud of. Because of this approach, the studio has been busy since the early days, and it has kept growing ever since.
After more than a decade and a half of tattooing, my experience is wide and deep. I work in styles from Asia, Europe and America, and everything in between: delicate fine line and tiny minimalist pieces, bold blackwork, Vietnamese motifs, detailed realism, cover-ups, and large complex projects. Whether your idea is a simple symbol or an intricate masterpiece, I will treat it with the same care.
And whatever you choose, it will always be designed for you. Never copied, never rushed, and always done with sterile, single-use needles opened in front of you.
